The town of Andalo is located on a plateau between Mount Paganella and the famous Brenta Dolomites and on the saddle that divides the Non Valley from the Giudicarie Valley.

Nothing precise can be said about the number of habitants in the first centuries, since the few men who, at the end of the Middle Ages, lived in the ancient farms of Andalo (only) during the summer, eventually came to settle on the site. However, until 1600, the habitants did not exceed 150-180 people. The first farms were also the summer home of the feudal lord's livestock. Slowly, the same people began to build permanent homes by gradually clearing the land around the houses and making field.

The first residential houses, the “masi” of Andalo, as they were always called, were formed approximately between 1100 and 1150. Initially it was therefore an alpine pasture area, later developing into a locality made up of groups of houses, before the twentieth-century tourist boom.

The center, of medieval origin, was once characterized by the subdivision into fourteen "masi" (the Latin term mansus refers to a house with a plot of land, inhabited by people subject to feudal obligations):

Bortolon, Cadìn, CasaNova, Clamer,

Doss, Fovo, Ghezzi, Melchiori, Monech,

Pegorar, Perli, Ponte, Roni and Toscana.

The houses of the past were built according to the ancient construction system: the ground floor and the first floor were made of brick, while the second floor was used as a barn and was built of wood. On the ground floor there was space for animals and for work places, while on the first floor there was the actual living quarters. The windows were very narrow to keep the heat inside the rooms, which obviously had no heating, but for this reason were rather dark and poorly ventilated. This characteristic is partly recognizable even today, although the farms have almost entirely been reunited and renovated, following the considerable urban development of the town (with the exception of Maso Pegorar and Maso Doss which to this day remain visibly detached from the rest of the town, in a panoramic position).

Since the mid-1900s, the town of Andalo has experienced significant tourist development, quickly becoming a primary holiday destination.
The altitude is about 1.000 meters, and the current habitants are approximately 1.100 (2024). Many more are those who stay in Andalo for tourism, both in summer and winter.
As for religion, in 1652 a chaplaincy was assigned to Andalo, with a resident chaplain. In 1671 the chaplaincy became a Curazia. The village grew and it was decided to build a new church. The chosen location was Maso Fovo, being more central than Maso Toscana and also being the place where the meetings of the rule had always been held. The new church of S. Vito was inaugurated in 1783.

The bronze monument exhibited in Piazza Centrale represents a woodcutter in a dynamic pose, with an axe in one hand and a piece of wood in the other, intent on doing his job. The work of art is inspired by the Anderlero saying “Ntant che pòlsest va a tagliar su legna” (while you rest, cut some wood!) and encapsulates this way of approaching life, productivity being a strong point of the identity of its habitants.
